What goes on a UK plumber invoice

The sheet carries your business details and logo at the top, the customer's name and address, a document number and date, then each bit of work as a numbered line with quantity and rate. Subtotal, 20% VAT if you use it, and the amount due sit at the bottom.

For the fields the law expects — and the extras once you are VAT registered — see GOV.UK's VAT invoices: what they must include. QuoteCo fills the document in; we are not an accountant.

Quote the job, invoice it when you're done

Most plumbing work starts as a price on the doorstep. Build it as an estimate, print or PDF it there and then, and it keeps its own EST number.

When the job is finished, press Raise invoice. QuoteCo copies the lines into a fresh invoice with its own INV number, marks the estimate accepted, and leaves both on file. No retyping on a Sunday night.

CIS on plumbing work

Subcontracting to a contractor? Tag every line as labour or materials. CIS is deducted from the labour only, at 20% if you are registered or 30% if you are not, and the sheet shows gross labour, materials, the deduction and the net due.

Background on the scheme is on GOV.UK's Construction Industry Scheme page. Always confirm the figures with your contractor and your accountant.

FAQ

What must a UK plumber invoice include?

Your trading name and address, the customer's details, an invoice number, the date, a clear description of the work and the amount due. If you are VAT registered there are extra fields — GOV.UK lists them under 'VAT invoices: what they must include'. QuoteCo lays the document out for you; we are not your accountant.

Can I quote the job and invoice it later?

Yes. Price the job as an estimate on site. When the customer says yes and the work is done, press Raise invoice — a new invoice is created with its own INV number and the estimate stays on file as accepted.

Do I need CIS on a plumbing invoice?

Only when you are subcontracting to a contractor inside the Construction Industry Scheme. Tag lines as labour or materials, switch CIS on at 20% or 30%, and the deduction applies to the labour only. Read the scheme on GOV.UK and confirm the figures with your contractor and accountant.

Does it add 20% VAT?

Yes. Turn VAT on and 20% is added to the subtotal and shown as its own line. Leave it off if you are not VAT registered.

Do I need an account, and do you take a cut?

No account is needed — open the builder, price the job, print or save a PDF. And no cut: QuoteCo never takes, holds or processes your client's money. You add your own bank details or pay link and the customer pays you directly.
